When talking about the paranormal field, it’s inevitable that the names Ed and Lorraine Warren will be mentioned at some point. This husband and wife paranormal investigating team is well-known and well-respected in the field with more than five decades of experience between the two of them.
Growing up in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Ed Warren experienced activity with the paranormal at a young age. As a police officer, Ed’s father would tell him there was a logical explanation for everything. Ed couldn’t seem to find any for the ongoings at his house. He couldn’t find a logical explanation for his closet door opening and shutting. He couldn’t find a logical explanation for the woman’s face he used to see. Nor was there a logical explanation for the sudden drops in temperature he would experience. From the age of five until he was twelve, Ed lived in this “haunted house,” and thus began the inner workings of a superb paranormal investigator.
Ed met Lorraine while working as an usher at the Colonial Theatre in Bridgeport. They were sixteen and from the time Ed first walked Lorraine home and asked her for a date, they were inseparable.
Selling their paintings became a good living for the Warren’s, and it was while doing this, they became interested in paranormal investigating. Ed would find rumored haunted houses and bring Lorraine (as she would tell him there is “no such thing as ghosts). Ed would sketch houses with ghosts coming out of them and Lorraine would walk up and explain that her husband loved to sketch haunted houses and give them the paintings. This is what would get the Warren’s into the homes to “investigate.” Ed was trying to find out if these homeowners were experiencing some of the same things he did as a child.
Probably the most famous case the Warren’s were involved in was the Amityville Horror. The infamous story of demonic forces tormenting a family drew national attention and of course, Hollywood’s attention. Ed and Lorraine Warren had investigated the home shortly after the Lutz family fled the house only twenty-eight days after moving in. Although many in the paranormal field will vehemently state that the Amityville story was a hoax, the Warren’s have stood behind their claims of activity in the house. They are also the only people who hold the only pictures ever taken inside the home.
Ed and Lorraine Warren have also been the nation’s top psychic researchers for the past thirty years and have held many lectures at colleges across the country. Along with having psychic sensitivity, the Warren’s are also demonologists. They have investigated over 4000 cases and have been featured on just about every single radio and television talk show in the country; as well as shows in England, Japan and Australia…amongst others.
Although Ed Warren passed away in August of 2006, Lorraine continues to work as a demonologist/paranormal investigator. Most notably, Lorraine has been featured in episodes of the A&E series Paranormal State. She is called in by the Paranormal Research Society team to utilize her sensitivity and demonology expertise.
Ed and Lorraine Warren are indeed pioneers in this field and have inspired some of the greats in paranormal investigating today. Their knowledge and opinions are highly respected amongst the paranormal field.
