Built in the 1840’s, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum was once the home of the inventor, Antonio Meucci and his wife Ester. They settled into their home in Staten Island after migrating from Havana in 1850. Meucci invented the smokeless candle, which became very popular by neighbors and churches. Antonio and his wife were kind people who would allow travelers to stay in their home. When Guiseppe Garibaldi was exiled from Italy in 1850, he came to live with the couple. When Garibaldi lived with Meucci, they became good friends and even worked together as candle makers to earn income. Garibaldi returned to Italy in 1854 where he led many battles that resulted in unifying Italy. He became known worldwide as the “Hero of Two Worlds.”
There are reports that the Museum is haunted with its past. Staff members and visitors have claimed to have experienced unexplained things. Some of the claims are of voices, shadows can be seen moving, cold spots throughout the house, strange sounds and smells.
Based on the alleged rumors of paranormal activity, LIPRI were looking for several factors during their investigation.
After the tour it was decided that sound does travel with the museum. Also, sounds from outside can be heard.
Reflections and passing cars can be contributed to shadow figures being seen at the location.
Not all windows were drafty but the museum itself "seemed" to be poorly insulated that could be associated with cold spots.
Thelma and Angelo would begin the night upstairs.
Noah and Mariela would be stationed at HQ.
Each cycle would consist of 45 minutes or depending on assumed activity.
The Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is fairly small, equivalent to a house. LIPRI established HQ in the conference room (No paranormal activity suggested.) The Monitor and DVR would be stationed with 2 people monitoring at all times.
Camera 1 would be in the Gallery area downstairs.
Camera 2 would be in the Garibaldi Room upstairs along with stationary audio. (Also visible with camera 3)
Camera 3 would be in the Office upstairs (Also visible with camera 2)
Camea 4 would be in the library, also with stationary audio.
10:15-10:30 : Tour
10:30-10:50 PM : Equipment setup
11:00-11:45 PM : Thelma and Angelo started investigating the upstairs area. Noah and Mariela were stationed at HQ. During this cycle, Thelma informed HQ she could hear other individuals talking throughout the building. Nothing of significance happened during this cycle.
11:50-12:30 AM : Mariela and Noah took over investigating the upstairs location while Thelma and Angelo took over monitoring at HQ. During this cycle, while in the library, Mariela said she felt as if there was a presence in the room. At this precise moment, Noah felt as if someone was standing behind him and he had a sudden chill come over him. Nothing showed up on audio/video/pictures.
12:35-1:20 AM : For this cycle, Thelma and Mariela headed up stairs to investigate while Noah and Angelo were stationed at HQ. Mariela thought she saw a person peering into the room which has been reported by the staff as well. This was unknown to the investigators at this time. While in the Garibaldi room, Thelma felt as if the dresser bumped her as if it moved.
1:25: 2:10 AM : Mariela and Angelo investigated the upstairs for this cycle. Halfway through their cycle, they split to two separate but within a safe distance of each other. While in the library, Mariela felt overwhelming sadness. During the same time, a light anomaly shot behind her.
2:20-2:45 AM : During this cycle, Noah and Thelma investigated the gallery of the museum. Thelma thought she heard strange tappings on the floor next to her. After further review, it was a sound from outside from the rain.
2:45-3:00 AM : Equipment Breakdown and Debrief
The Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is a wonderful place to investigate. We came away with some remarkable experiences, however, we came to the conclusion that only one team can investigate at a time due to possible noise contamination which limited us to the time spent investigating versus the areas investigated.
Personally, we feel there may be paranormal activity but our only experiences were in the library that we could not explain. However, there isn't any substantiated proof as audio/video and pictures came up empty. With one personal experience backing some staff reports without prior knowledge, it leaves us wanting to know more.
EMF readings were steady the entire investigation.
Nothing notable on video
Nothing notable was photographed.
